Berry Good For You - The Beauty of the Berry
Eating healthy during the summer seems to be quite easy, especially with all the fresh fruits that are available. Berries are definitely the highlight right now and are ripe for the picking. Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries are deliciously sweet right now, and they provide healthy nutrients and antioxidants for your good health.
Blueberries are preciously plump and packed full of essential nutrients for optimal health. One serving of blueberries provide14 mg of vitamin C, which gives you 25% of the daily requirement. Vitamin C helps promote healthy gums and capillaries. It also helps the body absorb iron and it boosts immunity. Blueberries also help provide the dietary fiber that your body needs so they help to keep your body regular, thus eliminating all the unhealthy stuff in the body. Blueberries also help keep the heart healthy and the cholesterol in check. My favorite thing about blueberries is the high antioxidant activity they that works to defend against free radical damage.
Raspberries are making a strong comeback recently with news about health benefits of raspberry ketones. Mostly, these raspberries contain a healthy serving of minerals suck as potassium, copper, iron and magnesium. Potassium helps to control heart rate and blood pressure and Copper is required in the production of red blood cells. (Please read my blog from Friday on the benefits and necessities of a magnesium rich diet). This wonderfully red and delicious fruit is rich in Vitamin B-complex and Vitamin K which work together to help the body metabolize carbohydrates, proteins and fats. As an antioxidant to prevent against free radical damage and aging, this non-guilt delicacy can actually help you stay fit. Finally, the ever popular raspberry ketone supplements are found to help weight loss efforts in combination with health supplements such as green tea, acai berry, and resveratrol.
When we say "blackberry" let's think of "beauty". It's true, the tasty blackberry fruit is really useful in helping to maintain the beauty of our skin. Polyphenol packed and vitamin E excellent, blackberries help to prevent cell damage from free radicals, thus maintaining firm and young looking skin. Eating blackberries will also give an immunity boost because of the dose of vitamin C they provide. Finally, providing the substance tannin is another benefit of the blackberry. Tannin in blackberries helps blood to coagulate and cuts to heal quickly; another selling point for kids' health supplements and benefits.
What are you waiting for? Grab a bowl and head into the woods or pack your market bag and head for the organic produce section. Get going and get healthy this summer with the amazing benefits and beauty of the berry.
